This website publishes general information about Australian family law. It is not legal advice, is not a substitute for advice from a qualified lawyer, and does not create a solicitor–client relationship. Family law is fact-specific. Statutes, court rules and agency processes change. Confirm current requirements with official sources and obtain personalised advice before you act.

Nothing on this website is a recommendation to start, stop or settle a case. We do not assess your eligibility for Legal Aid, a visa, a protection order or a court fee waiver. Links to the FCFCOA, the Family Court of Western Australia, Services Australia, Legal Aid and 1800RESPECT are provided so you can read official material.

Family law includes Commonwealth and state or territory elements. Western Australia’s court structure differs from the rest of the country. Do not assume an east-coast process note applies to a WA file, or the reverse. Protection-order names change by place. Child protection is a state system that sits beside, and sometimes cuts across, family-court parenting work.

2. No invented outcomes

We do not publish success rates, “custody win” claims, or case studies that did not happen. If a page describes what courts generally consider, that is a teaching aid, not a prediction. Percentages you read on social media are not your settlement.

We also do not invent statute section numbers beyond well-known public gateways that readers already meet in court materials (for example the section 60I certificate for many parenting filings). When a precise section matters to a filing, read the current Act on legislation.gov.au or ask a lawyer.

3. No solicitor–client relationship

Reading this site, using the glossary, or sending the contact form does not make us your lawyer. There is no retainer, no privilege and no conflicts check. Online Family Lawyer is not a law practice and does not appear in court. See how online legal help works.

4. No official forms hosted here

Court forms, fee schedules and practice directions change. Download them from the FCFCOA or the Family Court of Western Australia. A PDF copied onto a blog is how people file last year’s document in the wrong registry.
